Il-Khans

The Il-Khans were a Mongolian Khanate that ruled Persia from 1256 till late 1335. They Invaded the Southwestern part of Asia coming into power. They ruled Persia for almost 80 until Adu Sa'id Bahadur died and the civilization disinigrated from the inside out.

Social- The social life of the Il-Khans was extremely similar to the Mongol society. The woman played a vital role, they would take care of the animals, were involed in the military. They had more rights and privlages than most woman in other societies.

Political- The civilization was a Monarchy ruled by many rulers that reigned supreme power over the people. Over the 79 years of power, the Il-Khan had 9 rulers.

Religion- The Il-Khans adopted the religion of Tibetan Buddhism after Hulagu's rule. They then favored the Nestorian Christians which didn't last very long as a majority religion rather most Il-Khans converted to Islam which then became the main religion among the civilization.

Intellect- The Khans helped Iranians to write in Persian instead of Arabic.

Trade/Technology- The Il-Khan started doing business with the Chinese and developed the way of trade.

Economics- Il-Khans, like other Mongols, were farmers and therefore raised animals such as horses, sheep, and cattle. They then used those animals to trade for goods. They also relied on raiding as a way to gain money and goods.

Leaders


Hulagu Khan- Hulagu Khan was the grandson of Genghis Khan and the founder of the Ilkhanate dynasty. He ruled from 1256 till 1265. He settled his dynasty in the southwestern part of the Mongol Empire from Transaxonia to syria. Hulagu practiced Christianity since he was born but later resorted to Buddhism near his death. Khan died in 1265.

Abu Sa'id Bahadur-Adu was the 9th and final ruler of the Il-Khan. Bahadur had no heirs or appointed successors, so after his death in 1335 there was no one ruler to control the people.

Il-Khans Importance/Uniquness: The Il-Khans helped to pave the way for the modern country of Iran. They helped to bring both European and Chinese influences to the country. They also influences the movement of writing in Arabic to writing in Persian.
